Club Announcement: Exciting New Appointments & Launch of U18 Football

Torpoint AFC13 Jun - 13:08

More news from The Mill with a host of exciting news and appointments!

Torpoint AFC are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Reserve Team Management duo, Mitch Laughton and Byron Robbins. Both are no strangers to the Club, having led sides within the Club last season.

We are equally pleased to confirm Kev Morley as the new Manager of our 3rd Team, with James Addelsee stepping in as Assistant Manager. Kev and James bring great energy, experience, and alignment with the Club’s core values. Their aim is to provide a vital initial pathway for suitable young players transitioning into Open Age football, blending youth with experience to align with the Club's values.

U18 Football Is Here! A New Era Begins
In a historic move for the Club, Torpoint AFC are proud to announce the launch of Under 18 football. This expansion strengthens our ability to support young talent and bridge the gap between youth and senior football.

We’re thrilled to introduce two new U18 teams under the Torpoint AFC banner:

Torpoint AFC Kernow – Managed by Gary Jarvis, a well-known and respected figure within the Club, who will be assisted by Alex Stevenson.

Torpoint AFC Piran – Led by Paul Rapson, with Reserve Team Manager Mitch Laughton offering additional support as Assistant.

These teams will play a crucial role in shaping the next generation of Gold & Black stars, offering more players the opportunity to develop and showcase their talents within a structured and supportive environment.

A special thanks to our valued team sponsors, Channicool Training Services and Torpoint 24/7 Gym, for their support.

From Our Director of Football, Luke Gibbons:
“This is a really exciting time for the Football Club. Having two strong senior management teams in place so early — especially following the news from the Western League — gives us fantastic platform heading into the season and will get us ahead of the game with player recruitment.

Mitch and Byron know exactly what this Club is about and are fully invested at all levels. They’ve built outstanding relationships throughout the Club, and we’re confident in the direction they’ll take the Reserves.

Kev and James bring fresh ideas and strong leadership qualities. It was clear during the interview process that they would be a great fit. Kev has had tremendous success in youth football and is passionate about player development. James brings with him a wealth of local football knowledge and will offer invaluable experience to the group.

The news of our U18s is personally some of the best we could’ve hoped for this summer. Gary and Paul are fantastic individuals who understand the importance of developing talent the right way, and we’re proud to have them leading this initiative. Both teams will link in with our Senior sides as well as our current Youth set-up. We hope to see players progress from Penntorr and Tamar this season, with those players being given the opportunity to join the Senior set-up when they turn 16. A big thank-you must go to Youth Chair Jamie Brogan for his assistance as well as the coaches. It's going to be exciting to link with both Kate Todd (Penntorr) and Dan Rodell (Tamar) this season to see the progression of players!”
