As we close the curtain on the 2025/26 season at, it has proved to be another hugely important year for us, with significant progress made across all levels of the football club. From the Western League through to our new Under-18 sides, this season has shown that our club is truly going places.
Across every side, players, management, volunteers, and supporters have represented the club excellently throughout the year. While football will always bring highs and lows, this season has once again demonstrated the strength of the club both on and off the pitch.
First Team
I’ve spoken repeatedly about our pre-season aims for the Western League. As a group, we met and exceeded those expectations; however, we cannot hide from the bitter disappointment of how it ended. At times like this, we need to take stock and harness that disappointment to drive us forward next season.
We’ve seen multiple standout players throughout the campaign, as reflected in our end-of-season awards, but collectively the performances across the season should not go unnoticed. Step 5 football continues to be a challenge as we compete in what is becoming an increasingly regional league. While travel may reduce, competition for players continues to grow. At Torpoint, we want players who take pride in wearing our shirt while displaying the highest standards both on and off the pitch.
Dean, Karl, Gary, and the coaching team have once again been a credit to our club as they continue to set the standards for this football club. They have been a pleasure to work with, and their commitment behind the scenes, from preparation and recruitment to player support and development, often goes unseen but remains essential to the club’s progress.
Reserve Team
What a way to end the season. The Tracy Banfield Cup win was no less than this group deserved over the course of the campaign. Following a refocus after last season, the aim was to challenge at the top end of the league and put ourselves in a position to achieve promotion if possible. A third-place finish, coupled with a cup semi-final and a cup win, represents an incredible achievement for the group.
In addition to the team’s success, we have also seen a number of players begin their footballing journeys while earning appearances within the First Team setup.
The side will miss Byron’s leadership next season following his decision to step down in order to focus on wider club activities and support. Byron consistently puts the club’s best interests first, and I, for one, am delighted to see him enjoy success this season.
In Mitch, we have a fantastic young coach who was placed in a difficult position last season. This year’s success is testament to those tough days, and I have full confidence he will continue to push the side forward next season.
Third Team
The platform provided by the Third Team this season has effectively seen a completely new group compete within the challenging environment of the St Piran League. As a development pathway for emerging talent, we have seen 11 players progress into Reserve Team football.
Unfortunately, that progression can sometimes come at the expense of results, but the overall pathway provided by Kev and James should be viewed as a huge success for the football club.
Under-18s Section
I spoke at our end-of-season awards about how introducing Under-18 football into the senior setup had been a long-term ambition of mine, and I could not be happier with how that has progressed this season.
The commitment shown by our players and coaches has been phenomenal, to the point where both sides have been oversubscribed throughout the year. Beyond the development aspect, it has also provided players with a light-touch introduction to the demands of senior football.
My one disappointment has been the number of unfulfilled fixtures within the leagues, something completely outside of our control. Multiple weekends without football can often make it difficult to maintain player momentum and engagement but credit must go to our coaches in keeping interest high.
Our Piran side performed excellently throughout the season and are fully deserving of their league title, an achievement they should challenge themselves to repeat next season. Our Kernow side will likely be targeting promotion after finishing the season as runners-up.
A huge thank you to Paul, Mitch, Gary, and Max for all of their support this season.
Youth Section
It has been fantastic to see so many of our Torpoint Youth AFC sides thriving this season. From first wins and clean sheets through to league titles and cup doubles, it is clear that the hunger and ambition within our youth setup are stronger than ever.
I must personally thank Jamie and his executive committee for their support throughout the season, alongside all of the coaches who continue to provide a platform for children to participate, compete, and succeed within the game.
Volunteers, Sponsors & Supporters
No football club can succeed without the support of the people working tirelessly behind the scenes.
Our volunteers, committee members, supporters, and families have once again been outstanding throughout the season. There are far too many people to thank individually, but every one of you has played a part in making life easier while contributing to the continued success of this football club.
We are also extremely fortunate to have such incredible sponsors supporting Torpoint AFC. A huge thank you must go to our team sponsors: The Fort, Shearwater Marine Services, Ideal Homes, Philip’s MOT, The Gourmet Box, APEC Electrical, Kernow Cars, WCL Storage, Hawksdrift Innovations, Channicool Training Services, and Torpoint 24/7 Gym.
Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who has played a part in my journey at Torpoint AFC over the years. I have made many of my closest friendships through local football, and I wish the club every success moving into the 2026/27 season and beyond.
