Western League Management

Torpoint AFC17 May - 12:23

We get our man as Karl Curtis returns to The Mill to partner Dean Cardew.

Torpoint AFC are delighted to announce the appointment of Karl Curtis as Joint First Team Manager to Dean Cardew.

Karl brings with him a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the game as a UEFA A Licence holder. His most recent role was at Plymouth Parkway in the Southern League Premier Division. Karl is no stranger to the Torpoint faithful having previously held the management position at the Football Club.

Reflecting on the appointment, Dean Cardew said:
“When Ficey rang me to tell me he needed to step away, while I totally understood and accepted his reasons, it really hit me for six as I’ve absolutely loved the last 3 years working with him and he’s also become a true friend in that time.

With this information, I needed to take a step back and decide if I was also able to carry on and I knew for me to be able to do so there was only one person who we could bring in to allow me to. That person was Karl and the fact that he has accepted is a huge statement from this Football Club and I’m extremely excited at what the future holds."

Karl Curtis shared his enthusiasm about the new role:
"I’d like to thank Dean and the Club for this fantastic opportunity. The chance to work alongside Dean and continue to progress the great work that Ryan and Dean have already built excites me. Since my departure from Plymouth Parkway at the end of the 23/24 season I have been able to rest and spend some much needed time with my family. Now I feel reenergised and I’m really looking forward to working with the great set of players already at the Club."

Luke Gibbons concluded:
"As Dean has stated, with the departure of Ryan, it was key that collectively we acted quickly. Yes, the fit had to be right for this Football Club but for most importantly for Dean. Karl hits every key quality we look for as a leader within this Club. With strong community links, he's hugely respected both inside and outside of the football community. His CV and pedigree speaks for itself. With this management team, we've given ourselves a solid foundation for pre-season and the upcoming Western League campaign."
