Robbie's Review - FA Vase, Wadebridge Town (A)

Torpoint Athletic are through to the 1st Round Proper of the FA Vase after beating the Bridgers by a slender goal on Saturday afternoon at Bodieve Park against their South West Peninsula East hosts in a closely fought match, where ‘The Point’ edged out Wadebridge with the goal scored by prolific striker, Ryan Richards, in the final 15 minutes of this cup tie.

On fifth minute of the match, the hosts started the brightest with some good work by the midfield, created a chance for Jacob Rowe, their main threat of the afternoon for his effort from 18 yards went over the cross bar. Seven minutes later, the visitors had a free kick on the edge of the area from Darren Hicks which looked as it was going towards goal but somehow deflected away by a Wadebridge defender. On the 20th minute, the hosts had another chance when Matt Lloyd saw the visiting keeper Jordan Duffey off his line to see his effort from an angle from 15 yards go towards goal, but Torpoint’s Jason Richards was at the goal line to clear the ball away. A minute later, as the hosts were in ascendancy, good build up play by the midfield found Jacob Rowe to fire his effort from distance which went just wide of the right post. On the half hour mark, a Darren Hicks corner for Torpoint found Sean Thomson to put the ball through to Sam Hillson to see his effort go just wide from 12 yards. Five minutes later, a long ball over the top by the visiting keeper Jordan Duffey found Ryan Richards to trap the ball and fire home past home ‘keeper Rob Rosevear, but the goal was disallowed for being offside in a very close call. With five minutes remaining of the half with the visitors gaining more possession, Jack Wood passed a fine ball to Ryan Richards to strike his effort towards goal from 12 yards which was well saved by Rosevear.

Nine minutes into the second half, Torpoint had a free kick on the edge of the area by Josh Pope, who floated the ball into the area to find Hillson but saw his header go against the crossbar. On the hour mark, Jacob Rowe blasted his effort from the edge of the area, which went over Duffey and rattled the crossbar. A minute later, down the other end of the pitch, some good passing moves by Thomson and Ryan Richards found the latter to see his effort from 15 yards saved well by Rosevear’s feet. On the 75th minute, the deadlock was broken when the visitors took the lead. Thomson playing the ball in from the left found Ryan Richards to blast home from close range. Two minutes later, the hosts have not given up and with some good build up play by the midfield found Jacob Rowe to see his effort from 20 yards go inches over the bar. With ten minutes remaining, the visitors were looking to double their lead when Ryan Richards struck over the cross bar, after being set up by Thomson. In the fifth minute on injury time, the hosts had a last gasp corner which was put in the back net by Rowe, it was disallowed for a foul in the area and Wadebridge were also appealing for a penalty after they thought they saw a hand ball, but the referee waived away their appeals, then thirty seconds later the final whistle was blown.
