Founded in 1921, our visitors this weekend are Portland United or ‘The Blues’, they are currently in seventh position in the Wessex Premier League.
In the league, they have played ten matches, won five, drawn four and lost one, including their 1-0 win at home to Sherborne Town on Tuesday night with Ben Morris getting the goal for The Blues.
In the FA Cup, they exited the competition at the Extra Preliminary Round stage, losing 3-0 away at Horndean.
In the FA Vase, they beat United Services Portsmouth 1-0 at home in the 1st Qualifying Round and beat Wincanton Town 4-2 away in the 2nd Qualifying Round to set up our cup tie on Saturday.
Last season, United reached this stage where they lost to Cribbs FC, 4-2. Their best performance in the competition was back in 2016-17 where they reached the 2nd round and lost to Blackfield & Langley 2-1.
The ‘Point exited the competition at this stage last season on penalties away to Brimscombe & Thrupp. Our best run in the competition was back in the 2010-11 when we were defeated by Poole Town in the quarter final under the leadership of Stuart Dudley and a side that featured Mike Roberts, Josh Grant, Adam Carter and a young Darren Hicks.
