

Emirates FA Cup, Extra Preliminary Round
Saltash United 1-6 Torpoint Athletic

Torpoint Athletic have started their road to Wembley in style and are through to the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup when they brushed aside local rivals Saltash United at Kimberly Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with prolific goal scorer Curtis Damerell helping himself to a hat trick.
Torpoint took the lead on the fifth minute when Sam Pearson wins the ball on the edge of the area and he puts in Damerell who flicks the ball on and fires home past home keeper Tyler Coombes into the bottom left corner.
Six minutes later The Ashes are on the attack, but a number of balls are put into the area, the visitors clear the ball away with some resilient defending.
Just past the quarter hour mark the hosts equalise when a long ball over the top is eluded by Torpoint’s Rory Simmons and falls to Kieron O’Melia who has a one on one with visiting keeper James Morley and he fires home past him.
Half way through the half Damerell chases the ball down to the by line, and crosses into the area, the ball is found by James Rowe who’s effort just goes over the cross bar.
With seven minutes remaining of the first half, the visitors take the lead. The hosts fail to clear a cross and the ball falls to Simmons, he heads the ball in the path of Sam Pearson, who turns with the ball and fires home into the bottom left past Coombes.
The second half was only five minutes old when Torpoint double their lead. A Callum Martindale free kick on the edge area is found by Callum O’Brien who fires home a powerful pinpoint header past Coombes.
On the 68th minute, the visitors made if four when Freddie Chapman crosses the ball to Damerell who heads the ball against the crossbar. Chapman picks up the rebound and squares the ball back to Damerell who make no mistake to finish past the keeper.
Four minutes later the cup tie is over as contest when The Point fire home their fifth. A Martindale corner is found by Damerell in the area to head home his effort for his hat-trick.
With a couple of minutes remaining, calamity at the back for The Ashes when they gifted the visitors their sixth goal of the afternoon. A Saltash midfielder passed back to Coombes which sailed right past him and into the net, the keeper tried his best to chase the ball down, but it was too late.
Torpoint will now face Sidmouth Town away in the Prelinimary Round of The FA Cup on Saturday 16th August, 3pm at Manstone Lane.
